ABOUT MAZU

Layout

 

Laid out as an ideal live-aboard for a couple. Pilothouse design provides protection from weather and a superb place to view your surroundings through large windows whether underway or at anchor.

 

Front cabin provides luxurious sleeping accommodation with a queen-sized berth.

 

Very spacious galley. Stainless steel counters with integral double sinks, a large freezer/fridge under a matching stainless steel work surface. 

 

Toilet compartment with hot and cold water for a shower.

 

Abundant storage space throughout. 

 

Ample ventilation comes from 6 hatches and 7 opening ports.

 

Extensive use of white surfaces accented by warm wood trim gives the boat a very spacious feel.

 

Hull

 

Hull and superstructure well insulated with a generous layer of polyurethane foam, which means she is cool in summer and warm in winter. 

​

Multiple layers of two-part epoxy barrier paint below the waterline.

​

Hull above the waterline left unpainted for ease of maintenance.

​

The substantial rub-rail along the hull allows for carefree docking against pilings etc. 

 

Numerous sacrificial zinc anodes.

​

 

Above Deck

​

Long cockpit seats allow you to stretch out under the custom awning.

​

Large lockers under the cockpit for storage of sails and other gear. This compartment is separated from the rest of the hull by a watertight bulkhead.

​

Integral welded arch aft supporting a large solar array, wind generator, antennae etc.

​

Transom-hung rudder, tiller steered plus a robust hydraulic autopilot and Monitor servo-pendulum windvane.

​

Custom made, insulated companionway doors into the pilothouse ensure a watertight, safe closure.

​

Stanchions are welded to the hull and bulwarks, top guardrail is also aluminum pipe. Abundance of handrails provide a very secure and safe space to move about at sea. 

 

Space between the mast and the inner forestay to stow a 10ft dingy. 

​

Rig

 

Double spreader, keel stepped Sparcraft mast and boom. Slab reefing.

New Harken furler on headstay, staysail and storm staysail attach to inner forestay with piston hanks. 

Storm trysail has its own track on the mast.

All standing rigging was replaced in 2016.

Extendible whisker pole and spinnaker pole are easily deployed. 

 

Sails

 

Complete new suit of sails custom made in 2016 by Port Townsend Sails, arguably the best cruising sails money can buy. In excellent condition. Storm staysail and storm trysail have never been used. 

 

Propulsion

 

Powerful 63 hp 4 cylinder Yanmar diesel. This has been serviced regularly.

2 generous diesel tanks give Mazu an impressive range under motor.

 

Ground Tackle

 

Oversized Maxwell windlass, 3 anchors and 400 ft of chain allow for secure anchoring.

 

Plumbing

 

3 water tanks plus a high output (30-gal/hr) water-maker mean unlimited fresh water for showers etc.

 

Electrical

 

12 volt 500Ah ships battery bank, charged by a 530W solar array capable of supplying all electrical needs including the freezer and fridge. 

 

LED and compact fluorescent interior lighting

Two independent LED Navigation light sets

 

Power inverter, battery charger (1500W)

115v shore power

 

Navigation and Communications

 

Modern equipment installed in 2017-2018 includes chartplotter, wind, log, speed and depth, AIS, radar, SSB and VHF radios, GPS’s, barometer etc.

​

iPads and laptop computer also used.

​

Iridium GO satellite communicator provided unlimited data for email and weather downloads.

 

Safety

 

Personal safety gear includes life jackets, harnesses, PLB, EPIRB, flares and 4 man liferaft. 

 

Miscellaneous

 

An extensive inventory of gear is included with with Mazu as benefitting a serious offshore experienced sailboat. 

Some of these include propane BBQ, portable Honda generator, inflatable dingy, Honda outboard motor, fuel jerry can, many engine and equipment spares, filters, spare lines, sheets, mooring warps, tools, scuba diving gear, fishing gear etc. The galley is equipped with a generous amount of pots, pans, pressure cooker, crockery and cutlery etc.
